Today was crazy again. First, we had breakfast with Raintree at 8:30am. It’s ridiculous how on our last free morning, we don’t even sleep in -_- But anyways, that was fun. Raintree is super cute…she’s so nice too. So breakfast was quite enjoyable…
After breakfast, we took the subway to the fabric market on Lujiabang Rd, where you can pick from millions of types of fabrics and have anything you want made for you. Yeah, the choices were OVERWHELMING. First of all, there were just so many fabric shops, and within each shop there were so many types of fabric, and then with each fabric, you had to decide what you wanted them to make. Ohhhh goodness, it was crazy. Fortunately, they had some sample stuff like dresses, skirts, shirts, etc on mannequins, so you could just tweak the sample one to make it how you wanted it. So…it was bad, but I bought 3 dresses. Yeah, THREE. I don’t know what I was thinking. I don’t even WEAR dresses. First I wanted to find some shirts and tops, but it’s actually not that cheap there…you can bargain with them, but they don’t bargain much, especially because they’re tailoring it to exactly what you want and it’s such labor-intensive work. So the tops and shirts I was looking for weren’t exactly my price..they were like $20 or more, but I could easily get what I want in the States for cheaper or same price. The only things really worth buying there are heavy jackets, suits, dresses, and other stuff that you need tailored exactly to your shape. They had some REALLY cute jackets that I wanted to buy, but I don’t think I could’ve fit them in my luggage, and it didn’t really seem sensible to buy a trenchcoat for the weather in San Diego. But anyways, I have to go to my cousin’s wedding the first week I get back home, so I decided to look for a dress for her wedding. I ended up buying a strapless, in a black/white/purple pattern with a purple tie around the waist. I think the pattern was really cute…hopefully it ends up cute on me. I got it for 220 yuan (=$31), so I think that’s a pretty good deal. She started it at 380 yuan though, so at least I got it down a little bit. I got two more casual dresses made out of jersey cotton, but they’re super cute. One of them was on a mannequin, and it’s a strappy with 4 straps on the back. Okay, that sounds really ugly. I don’t know how to describe it, but it was really cute, and I really liked the back. I got it in navy blue. For the other one, I brought one of my shirts in to have them copy & extend it into a dress. I don’t even know how to describe it again. But I got that one in purple. I got those two both for 300 yuan, so 150 each ($20). I think that’s a pretty good price…sort of…. Hopefully they’ll look good…I’m one of those people who is really bad at imagining things, so I have to do it first and then decide if I like it or not. Omgosh, I bought THREE dresses. What the heck am I going to do with THREE more dresses????
Anywayys, after that, we took a taxi to the Shanghai Art Museum. I didn’t particularly want to go to the art museum because I’m not a big art person, but Joanna wanted to. It was okay…it was pretty small, and the exhibits were okay. Some of the pictures were really cool, but one whole exhibit was really weird….the painter included these horses w/ weird, creepy teeth on them. I don’t know what it was all about…it was super ugly and kinda freaky though.
After that, it started raining really hard, so we decided to eat lunch at People’s Square (the art museum was right next to People’s Square) since it would be impossible to get a taxi in the rain. So we ate some noodle soup at a shopping mall, but it was kind of expensive. I think I’m running out of money, so I need to start eating like those $1 meals.
After lunch, it stopped raining, so we took a taxi back to the hotel and we went to Student Street to buy picture frames and develop pictures. We decided to give Katie, Raintree, and the Wus gifts before we leave. For each of them, we’re developing a picture of them with us and putting it in a picture frame, and we’re going to write them a card too.
After that we FINALLY came back to the hotel, after about 8 hours of being out and walking around. Man, I’m so tired again! And it’s only 5:30…how sad. I feel like an old lady.
